Our Chapter

In December 1991, a group of friends got together and began a life-changing conversation.  All had been interested in Boy Scouts and had heard of the fraternity Alpha Phi Omega.  Before long, they got the idea to start a chapter here at Frostburg State University. First, these five friends (Jason Birzer, Jeremy Gagliardi, Mary Grace Sylvester Gagliardi, Don Lipscomb, and Andrew Corl) had to find a group of people who were also interested in starting a chapter of Alpha Phi Omega.  Once they found enough people who wanted to be involved, they started the petitioning process on January 23, 1992.

The petitioning group of Alpha Gamma Chi was inducted on Saturday, April 11, 1992.  Their induction ceremony was held in the library in room 210 at 1 pm. The fall semester of 1992 was very busy for the newly formed petitioning group.  Not only were they working toward completing the process to be able to charter, but they were also working towards having the very first official new member class in the spring semester of 1993. After many service hours, library hours, studying, testing, and many meetings with Randy Finder, Lee Correll, and Lee Avery, the petitioning group had finally earned their charter.

The chartering ceremony was planned for March 13, 1993. However, there was a snow storm.  The ceremony was rescheduled after many phone calls. The new date was planned for just after spring break. The Alpha Gamma Chi chapter of Alpha Phi Omega officially chartered on March 28, 1993.  The ceremony was held in the Saint John's Episcopal Church on Broadway St, Frostburg, MD at 1 pm.

Within our chapter, we offer many opportunities for our members to gain and enhance their leadership skills. Each of our brothers embody our cardinal principles of leadership, friendship, and service and apply them in every aspect of their lives.  All members are encouraged to be creative and think of new opportunities for the chapter and help execute them.
